What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that the websites visited by the user send and register on his/her device (smartphone, computer etc.). The cookie registered on the user's device is then sent back to the website when that user next visits (for instance, to enable navigation based on the settings chosen during the first visit), and this retransmission might also include the user's personal data.

There are various types of cookie, which have different functions and different storage expiry on the user's device. In the present context, the most relevant examples are “technical” cookies, necessary for a website to work properly or for carrying out the functions requested by the user, and “analytics” cookies, which are utilized for statistical purposes and, in particular, to collect aggregate information on the number of users and how these users visit a website.

Based on the legislation in force in Italy, technical cookies (and similar tools) do not require user consent. Analytics cookies are structured similarly to technical cookies and do not require user consent, unless they are “third-party” cookies, this meaning that they come from sites different from the one visited by the user. In these cases, exemption from consent is allowed only if the cookies are used solely to generate aggregate statistics regarding a single website and using such methods as to significantly reduce the possibility of identifying the user (such as masking the IP address, or preventing combination of the data with other data or disclosure to third parties).

Which cookies does this Website use?

This Website uses a technical cookie, a tool similar to technical cookies (called “local storage”), and analytics cookies.

The technical cookie, called “PHPSESSID”, does not collect any of the user's personal data; it is necessary in identifying a user’s single session and assigns a random code to this user. This cookie is automatically deleted when the browser is shut down (it is also referred to as a “session cookie”).

Besides this cookie, this Website also utilizes, again for technical purposes, a technology similar to cookies and known as “local storage”; here the Website server saves certain information to the storage space of the user's device. Storing this information enables the Website pages (and particularly the Website fonts) to be loaded more quickly, thus avoiding the need to repeat the download of certain components from the server at every Website visit. More specifically, the Website uses the following components for local storage: “bk.webfonts.format”, “bk.webfonts.published.woff.lato”, “bk.webfonts.published.woff.old_standard_tt”.

Unlike cookies, in this case the Website can never access the stored information and cannot delete it; this information remains saved on the user's device until the he/she sees to deleting it (instructions for deleting this information are available further on, in the section “How to prevent cookie usage, how to delete cookies and other user rights”).

Analytics cookies are used for the purpose of obtaining statistical information useful to improving our communication.

In the case of these cookies, we rely on the Google Analytics service offered by the provider Google Ireland Limited. We work solely on the aggregated statistical information, this meaning that it cannot be connected to a single identifiable user. In fact, even if the cookies we utilize involve collecting personal data and, specifically, the user's IP address, as soon as the data has been collected, and in any case before registering it, the provider (Google Ireland Ltd.) automatically sees to masking the IP address in such a way as not to allow this data to be utilized to identify the user (for further information, please click on the links provided after the following table). Once again to prevent user identification, the Google Analytics service has been configured with measures that do not allow: a) the collected data to be combined with other information; b) data to be sent to third parties; c) usage of this data for purposes others than that of providing the service.

Thanks to these precautions, the analytics cookies we utilize can be grouped with the technical cookies and do not require user consent. Analytics cookie usage takes place based on the need to pursue the Controller’s legitimate interest in collecting aggregate statistical information to improve its communication activities. The user may, at any time and for reasons connected with his/her specific context, opt out of the data processing carried out for legitimate interest. In particular, the user may prevent usage of these cookies through specific tools, which are better described in the following paragraphs. Furthermore, the user may contact the Controller at the above-listed contact addresses and numbers for additional information on the legitimate interest and regarding the balance between the Controller’s and the user’s interests.

The following table provides more detailed information on the analytics cookies used by the Website.
